Virginia Chachati guest lectures third year medical students at University of Bristol for their SSC: Session 1 – Introduction to health information videos and YouTube

After a successful session teaching third year medical students for a Student Selected Component (SSC) at the University of Bristol last year (2025), I was invited back by Dr Hans Johnson to deliver 5 SSC sessions for their 2025-2026 cohort.

This first session was an introduction to creating health information videos and using YouTube as a platform to publish these videos.

I designed the session to cover:

  • Benefits of creating health information videos
  • My work as a Pharmacist video creator with WHO, NHS, UKHSA, DHSC
  • What is misinformation and disinformation?
  • What is health literacy?
  • What makes health information accessible (language & format)
  • What does “evidence-based” health info mean?
  • Why choose YouTube to publish videos?
  • Impact of my own YouTube channel “Pharmacist Virginia”

These sessions are part of an SSC which will count towards their medical degree. The students are lovely and asked thoughtful questions; it’s a real privilege to be part of their learning journey 🙂

I look forward to delivering four more sessions over the next two weeks 🙂

Many thanks to Dr. Vishaal Virani, MBBS, Head of YouTube Health UK & Ireland for the initial introduction to Dr Hans Johnson MBChB MRes last year 🙂
