💡 What is the YouTube Health shelf?
The YouTube Health Shelf is a collection of videos from high authority, credible sources, such as doctors, psychologists, pharmacists, nurses, and health organisations like the NHS.
So when you search for a health topic like “hay fever” in the image below, you will see a “From health sources” feature (the ‘health shelf’) at the top that you can scroll through.
In the image below, you can see me as Pharmacist Virginia @pharmacistV featuring in a video I did with @NHS on “How to choose hay fever medicines”.

This feature was launched on Thursday 7th September 2023 to tackle misinformation online, and I am hoping other social media platforms will look to verify who is creating health content and follow suit! (Looking at you TikTok, Instagram & Facebook!)
Bravo YouTube for working with the NHS, CDC and WHO to make this happen!
Shorts (videos under 60 seconds) and long form videos are both eligible to appear on the YouTube Health Shelf!
It’s a privilege to be part of the first round of healthcare professionals creating content for the benefit of public health. Many thanks to Dr. Vishaal Virani, MBBS for creating events for us to network and courses to help us learn how to create information-based content that is in high demand based on agreed standards from the NHS and Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (see more about standards here: https://lnkd.in/eZBKJCaH).
I’m very excited for the YouTube Accelerator program that starts next week to improve my video skills and reach my 2000 watch hours within the next 12 months on YouTube to apply for my own “verification” badge!
