How I create evergreen health videos as Pharmacist Virginia

Everything I did to create this educational health video as “Pharmacist Virginia”

1. Think of an idea – what do I know that most people might not know, and I often had to explain in the pharmacy? Is it simple and easy to explain in a few words? Is it evergreen?

Suspensions!

Most people think if a medicine is liquid, you just pour it out. But not with suspensions – you have to shake, shake, shake!

2. Set up to film – get my green screen, light (with lantern softbox), tripod and phone in place.

Get dressed up as Pharmacist Virginia (including my name tag – which I got custom made so it’s easy to read).

Attach my mic (can you see it? It’s a small round white mic that blends into my white jacket perfectly!)

3. Press record – do a few takes, and make sure I’m looking at the camera, with a friendly face, and smooth, calm, authoritative voice.

(No teleprompter for this one!)

4. Play all the takes and select the best one as a “favourite”. Upload it straight from my phone to my portable hard drive.

(bonus step: film all the other videos I had planned for this batch recording session!)

5. Plug in my hard drive to my laptop and create a folder for all the files for this video.

6. Open editing software and remove the greenscreen and resize/position the video so it fits the frame nicely. Add the pharmacy background image.

7. Edit the video transcript, then create captions. Change the colour/style/size/position of the captions.

8. Take a still image to “freeze frame” the bottle that says suspension.

9. Go to Canva to create a custom blue arrow with a white outline so I can point to the word “suspension” on the freeze frame. Download with a transparent background.

10. Add the arrow to the freeze frame, and make sure they are synchronised.

11. Download a free “ping” sound effect, and add under the freeze frame, make sure it’s synchronised and not too loud.

12. Add background music, lower the volume so it’s not louder than me, and make it fade in at the beginning and fade out at the end.

13. Download SRT file with captions (because auto-generated captions are often inaccurate!)

14. Export video 🙂

Phew! That was a lot of work. But now I have a neat little evergreen video that I can use for years to come.
